What do Bats do in winter?
When it gets cold some bats hibernate. Some bats migrate. Hibernating bats find a place that stays the same temperature. A cave is perfect. Their hearts slow from 200 beats a minute to 20 a minute. By doing this they are able to survive the long winter on their own fat.
If someone wakes them, they use up 30 to 60 days of fat. If bats wake up even a few times it is enough to kill them.
Some bats migrate long distances to the southern United States or Mexico.
