Recognizes the Constitution as the basis for law in our country. This would be a good time to help your child understand what the word law means.
This would be a great time to talk about how important it is to vote and that it is even more important to learn about the issues so that we can make good choices about our laws. How are our state officials selected? Who can vote for them? Why do we need state governments if we have a federal government?
4th grade builds on all these concepts with the addition of history! They will actually study the Colonial and Revolutionary War periods of our history.
Specifically a 4th grader should be able to analyze the impact of the Constitution both in principal and in practice. If you help them learn the Preamble and the Bill of Rights they have knocked out two of four of the major requirements!
